Travancore Nature History Society
Travancore Nature History Society (TNHS) Trivandrum, is a Non-Governmental Organisation established under the Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act of 1955. Major objective of the organisation is to study Natural History and Biodiversity of the Southern Western Ghats, one of the World’s most interesting Biodiversity Hotspots. We have done extensive studies in southern Western Ghats by conducting scientifically structured faunal assessments of Mammals, Birds, Butterflies, Dragonflies and Ants, in close association with other NGO’s and governmental establishments . We also conduct Nature education and awareness programs, photo exhibitions and workshops for students and public. Our members have been actively involved in various scientific expeditions and have published numerous articles in reputed Research journals in India and abroad.
The motto of the organisation ‘Be green, go green’ clearly expresses the basic concept of being Eco-friendly and the urge to observe, study and protect nature. The logo of TNHS, Travancore Pied Kingfisher Ceryle rudis travancoreensis Whistler, 1935, represents the intense concentration and flawless focusing needed to develop a keen insight into Natural History and to address the environmental issues that we are facing day to day.
