The Travancore Natural History Society (TNHS), in collaboration with the Department of Aquatic Biology and Fisheries at the University of Kerala the Institute for Tropical Research, Ecology and Conservation, Trivandrum (INTREC), and Kerala State Biodiversity Board, is pleased to present an engaging conference TAXOCON 2024 on the basics of invertebrate taxonomy. This comprehensive event aims to delve into the fascinating world of invertebrates, exploring their taxonomy, classification, and ecological significance.

This workshop is designed for amateurs enthusiasts, researchers, and students keen on understanding the intricate science of invertebrate taxonomy, providing an immersive experience organized into diverse sessions. Our esteemed speakers will cover a wide array of topics, ranging from the foundational principles of taxonomy to the cutting-edge techniques of molecular and integrative taxonomy. The workshop kicks off with an overview of taxonomy, tracing its historical development and emphasizing its pivotal role in the biological sciences. Participants will be introduced into the basics and ethical practices associated with taxonomy, laying the groundwork for the subsequent sessions.

Invertebrate diversity will take centre stage as we explore the taxonomy of various groups, including mantids, parasitic crustaceans, butterflies, moths, beetles, odonates, cicadas, ants, freshwater crabs, and aquatic insects. Each session will provide valuable insights into the identification, behaviour, and ecological roles of these fascinating organisms. One of the highlights includes a session on molecular and integrative taxonomy, shedding light on the contemporary approaches that bridge traditional taxonomy with molecular techniques. Participants can expect to gain practical knowledge and insights from case studies showcasing the application of these methods in current research. The programme will conclude with a session on the role of macrophotography in taxonomic research, emphasizing its importance as a tool for documentation and research in the field of invertebrate taxonomy.

We invite all those passionate about the natural world, whether beginners or seasoned researchers, to join us for this enriching workshop. Together, let's explore the wonders of invertebrate taxonomy and deepen our understanding of these essential components of biodiversity. Come be a part of this collaborative learning experience, share your insights, and connect with fellow enthusiasts in the field. We look forward to an engaging and informative journey into the world of invertebrate taxonomy.
